練習四 表「目的」的寫法

為了防止同樣的事情再發生，美國政府採取主動對抗恐怖主義。

「為了」最建議的翻法是直接用to V

雖然也可以使用in order to V或是for the purpose of Ving

甚至是with a view to Ving或是with an eye to Ving亦可

但是都顯得刻意

「防止」為prevent

其用法為prevent sth. from Ving

至於「禁止」則是ban或是prohibit

Visitors are prohibited from taking pictures in the museum.

參觀博物館的人禁止拍照。

「美國政府」要翻為the U.S. government

「採取主動；積極做~」為take the initiative + in Ving

 但有些字典或是文法書也說take the initiative to V亦可

「恐怖主義」是terrorism

-ism結尾的單字常為一種概念或思想

例如

romanticism un. 浪漫主義

Confucianism un. 儒家思想

Buddhism un. 佛教
